December 2013: Mastermind Moyesy’s Greatest Month

As we go in to another full Boxing Day fixture list, John Murphy looks back at what went down 12 months ago for football genius David Moyes…

It is fair to say at this point that things didn’t really go swimmingly for David Moyes during his brief tenure as the man in charge at Old Trafford. 80 odd crosses in one game, record losses to just about everyone who came knocking and a style of play that flip flopped from one week to another like a grandmother trying to settle on new curtains… But December was a different story for the somewhat befuddled Scotsman.

Believe it or not, approaching Boxing Day Moyes was on the back of two wins over Villa and West Ham and was on the road to what would be his best month as Manchester United manager. But having lost to Newcastle and Everton in the two games prior, Moyes was still going to the KC Stadium in desperate need another win. This is how it went down…

Having gone two nil down, United clawed their way back to a 3-2 win. It was a Fergie-esque performance of determination and grit and after a fourth win in a row followed away to Norwich, many would have been excused for believing Moyes had finally turned a corner. January however was a different story but we’ll pretend the past hasn’t quite happened for the sake of this yarn. All hail Moyesiah!!!
