How Does Coutinho’s Transfer Compare With The Most Expensive Of All Time?

The long-running Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona saga has finally ended with the Brazilian inevitably making the switch to the Nou Camp albeit surprisingly in January.

It is a bitter pill to swallow for Liverpool supporters to lose one of their star players but on the other side of the coin, the Merseysiders are set to receive an astronomical transfer fee.

Coutinho gets his dream move and Barca get their long-term replacement for Andreas Iniesta. Perhaps, it is a great move for all parties involved.

Let’s have a look at where this deal ranks in the most expensive of all time.

1. Neymar – Barcelona to PSG, £198m

The most expensive transfer of all time happened just all summer when PSG made a significant statement that sent shock-waves throughout world football.

The Qatari-backed club showed that they are serious in becoming a true football superpower.

Neymar is probably the third best footballer on the planet only bested by Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Many speculated he made the move to step out of Messi’s shadow.

He has waltzed through Ligue 1 and the Parisians will hope he can help land a coveted Champions League triumph.

2. Philippe Coutinho – Liverpool to Barcelona, £145m

Coutinho’s mega-money switch to the Nou Camp will be the second most expensive transfer for the time being at
least. The 25-year-old had been seemingly adamant he wanted to go to Barcelona all summer but never got his wish.

However, Barca pushed hard in January and have got their man.

3. Ousmane Dembele – Borussia Dortmund to Barcelona, £135m

Another Barcelona signing, Dembele was signed just last summer as a replacement for the departed Neymar.

The 20-year-old is regarded as one of the most explosive young talents in world football along with fellow French international Kylian Mbappe.

Dembele’s injury at the start of the season was a blow to the Catalan giants but he is now nearing a return to action
just in time to join forces with new teammate Coutinho.

The La Liga leaders really have a sstar-studded line-up.

4. Paul Pogba – Juventus to Man United, £93.25m

Pogba was the then most expensive signing of all time when United swooped for the midfielder in the summer of 2016. Ironically, United did let Pogba go to Juventus for free in 2012 so took a major hit as he excelled in

Pogba has had his critics for his extraordinary transfer fee but he is now a crucial player for United going

The 24-year-old is likely to be United club captain in the near future.

5. Gareth Bale – Tottenham to Real Madrid, £85.3m

Real Madrid saw off competition from Manchester United to land the Welsh wizard. Bale ripped up the Premier League for at White Hart Lane which made Los Blancos stand up and notice.

Full of pace, strength and goals, Bale is the ultimate winger.

Despite injury issues, he has enjoyed a successful stint at the Bernabeu which includes three Champions League winners medals.

6. Cristiano Ronaldo – Man United to Real Madrid, £80m

One of the greatest players to ever play the game, Ronaldo had such an impact that his name is still
sung from time to time at Old Trafford almost ten years on.

However, the Portuguese superstar always had his heart set on Real Madrid where he took his game to greater heights than ever before.

He has proven to be worth every penny and probably a bargain in comparison to the market value of players these days.
