Having seen their Sunday evening deadline come and go without movement from the Liverpool camp, Barcelona’s pursuit of Phillipe Coutinho appears to be over.
La Blaugrana’s third bid, totaling £114 million, was rejected by the Reds last week and, understandably, Barca are seemingly not willing to offer any more.
So although he handed in a transfer request and reportedly told the club he didn’t want to play for them again, Coutinho looks set to stay put.
Ed Malyon of The Independent is now reporting that the player wants “clear-the-air” talks with the club before he re-enters the first team fold.
He’s been sidelined with a back injury for the opening weeks of the season. There’s no word as of yet as to when he’ll be back to full fitness.
Jurgen Klopp will be facing the media today ahead of his side’s crucial Champions League qualifier against Hoffenheim tomorrow night. The German will presumably address the issue of the attacker’s future during the press conference.
The Merseysiders take a slim advantage into the second leg in Anfield having won 2-1 in Germany last Tuesday.
Barcelona are supposedly now targeting Nice’s Jean-Michael Seri with any hopes of signing Coutinho fading rapidly. The Catalonian giants are also closing in on a deal for 20-year-old Ousmane Dembele as they look to calm the fears of fans who saw their side get humiliated at the hands of Real Madrid last week.
