Cork City got their 2018 season off to a great start on Sunday, as they overcame Dundalk in Dundalk to claim the President’s Cup.
John Caulfield’s side didn’t get off to such a great start in the game itself, however, as they fell a goal behind after 19 minutes, with Ronan Murray finding the net as snow swirled around Oriel Park. Just five minutes before the break, Murray, who Dundalk recently signed from Galway United, bagged another goal to make it 2-0 to the hosts.
Cork came storming back in the second half though. Karl Sheppard opened the scoring for last year’s League of Ireland Premier Division and FAI Cup winners just four minutes after the restart. Barry McNamee subsequently headed home the equalizer on 56 minutes before a tidy finish from Kieran Sadlier on 79 gave Cork the lead. Just three minutes later, Graham Cummins sealed the dramatic comeback win with a cracking long-range effort.
If you weren’t in attendance at Oriel Park on Sunday, chances are, you missed the six goals, as there was no television coverage of the season-opener.
You can, however, watch them below courtesy of Dundalk’s YouTube account…
