In a blow to SSE Airtricity League Of Ireland table toppers Cork City, their captain John Dunleavy looks set to miss out on the rest of the season through injury.
City boss John Caulfield revealed the news today, stating that Dunleavy has sustained a knee injury which will likely rule him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Dunleavy picked up the injury in his side’s victory over Limerick last Friday night and it was immediately clear that the player was in discomfort. The 25-year-old Donegal native has been luckless with injuries in the past and will be extremely disappointed, along with all Cork City fans, to be sidelined until next season.
City winning the league is now more or less a formality, as they seek to finish the season undefeated. That is now a task they must undertake without their versatile skipper.
Caulfield says he doesn't expect Dunleavy to play again this season.

Huge blow losing John Dunleavy for the season. The squad is very stretched now, especially in central defence. #CCFC84

Hope the stretcher for John Dunleavy doesn't lead another long spell on the line. A great leader for Cork City, plagued with injury…

John Dunleavy comes across as genuinely nice lad can't help feeling gutted for him .
