Despite the arrival of Tiemoué Bakayoko at Chelsea and the Manchester United’s continually reported interest, it was still a surprise when Nemanja Matic completed a move to Old Trafford earlier this week.
Following the events surrounding the move of Romelu Lukaku to United, where the Blues saw what many thought to be their primary transfer target suddenly make a move to their Premier League rivals, it seemed the champions would be in no mood to deal with with the Europa League champions.
However, a £35 million bid for the Serbian midfielder was accepted by the London club last week and he subsequently agreed personal terms before sealing the deal on Monday.
United supporters are already very excited about the addition of Matic while some sections of Chelsa fans questioned the decision to let the midfielder leave. Antonio Conte was clearly not involved in the decision to complete the sale, judging by his latest quotes.
Conte is now asked about why he sold Nemanja Matic to Manchester Unitd. He simply says: "You must ask the club about this." #CFC #MUFC

While the Italian may simply be asking the press to direct any such questions to the club, it seems he’s admitting he didn’t want the 29-year-old to leave.
Conte, however, is not without cover in midfield with Ngolo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and Bakayoko all competing for the two spots the 3-4-3 he favours.
