It was generally a day to forget for most of Manchester United’s players earlier this afternoon.
José Mourinho’s side lost 2-1 to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City at Old Trafford in what was generally considered to be a brilliant, hotly-contested derby between two of England’s biggest clubs.
However, City were far superior for large parts of the game, particularly in midfield where the trio of Fernandinho, David Silva and Kevin De Bruyne ran the show.
To that end, the Man United pairing of Marouane Fellaini an Paul Pogba were overrun during what was a horrendous first half for the home side.
Pogba in particular underperformed, losing his positional discipline on more than one occasion as the opposition threatened to run riot.
As the various clips below show, this was not the performance of an £89m player. Though he was by no means the worst player on the pitch (hello Jesse Lingard), there was enough evidence to show today that despite the fanfare that greeted his arrival, Pogba is still some way from being the finished article.
Cases in point:
£100M Paul Pogba in action. What an expensive flop. ??? https://t.co/joBMfjxPVZ

#Pogba had no composure, poor concentration and lack of awareness about him. Don’t give me that positional nonsense. £89 million man!! #MUFC

Pogba bought for £90 million and should be rising above the other players and performing in the big games. Poor performance from him. #MUFC

While for many who are not fans of the club, it was the perfect time to engage in a major spot of schadenfreude:
