Irish international Cyrus Christie is on the verge of leaving Derby County.

The Championship club have agreed a fee of around £2m with Middlesbrough for the right-back, with a medical set to completed in the next few days.

Christie’s days at Pride Park looked numbered when it was announced earlier this week that the Rams had signed Andre Wisdom from Liverpool in a £4.5m deal. Indeed, the 24-year-old struggled to usurp veteran defender Chris Baird in the side last season – and with the club deciding to keep Baird and sign Wisdom, Christie is surplus to requirements under manager Gary Rowett.

All going well, the former Coventry man will be on the plane with his new Boro teammates and Garry Monk before they jet out to Portugal for a pre-season training camp this weekend.

In a busy morning for Middlesbrough, reports have also suggested that the recently relegated club have agreed a deal with Norwich City to sign midfielder Jonny Howson.
