Arsene Wenger will be furious with the Chilean FA after they reportedly blocked Arsenal’s demand for their star Alexis Sanchez to return to the club after suffering an injury while on international duty.
Wenger spoke prior to the beginning of the international break about how the system concerns him, and Sanchez suffered a hamstring problem whilst with his country.
Wenger was incensed that Chile planned to play Sanchez despite the threat of the player injuring himself further looming.
‘I got a text last night (to say) that he has a hamstring injury. The team from Chile has travelled without him and they kept him to try and get him fit to play Uruguay for the second game on Tuesday night,’
‘I believe that with a hamstring injury. We have to get access for our medical staff to the MRI scan to see what grade it is, how bad it is and make absolutely sure they don’t make any suicidal decision that could harm his future for two or three months,’ Wenger added.
Despite the Frenchman’s words, according to La Tercera, Chile still plan to keep the player with them and will assess him by using their own medical team prior to Tuesday’s game.
The stress that this will undoubtedly cause Wenger and Arsenal is just another sign of how the relationship between clubs and countries has become increasingly frayed in recent years.
