Chelsea have announced the signing of Italian international Jorginho from Napoli.
The midfielder has signed a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge, and becomes Chelsea’s first major signing of the summer in a deal believed to be worth around £57m (€65m).

His arrival comes hot on the heels of the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as the new head coach – indeed, it is believed that Sarri, whom Jorginho played under at Napoli, had a big role in helping to convince the midfielder to choose Chelsea over previous suitors Manchester City.
The 26-year-old will battle with Cesc Fabregas, N’Golo Kante, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Ruben Loftus-Cheek (along with Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley if they remain at the club) for a place in the Chelsea midfield, though his preference for playing as a holding midfielder may see Sarri deviate from Conte’s 3-4-3/3-5-2 into his own favoured 4-3-3.
In any event, Jorginho is highly unlikely to be the only new signing at the club this summer as Sarri plots a route back in to the Champions League and beyond, Russia’s World Cup star Aleksandr Golovin has been linked, so too have Juventus defender Daniele Rugani and Roma’s Brazilian international goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
