Multiple reports this evening have been linking Chelsea with a move for Peter Crouch. Needless to say, this comes as quite the shock.
At 36, the big striker is no spring chicken, and you’d have to question what he could offer a Champions League team at this stage in his career.
After their interest in Andy Carroll, it seems that the Pensioners are on the market for a big target man. Indeed, many are reading into this situation that Conte is eager to add a real aerial threat to their attack.
This evening, an ironic tweet from 2010 has resurfaced, from when Chelsea were playing Spurs in the Premier League. Carlo Ancelotti’s Chelsea team were trailing by a goal after Roman Pavlyuchenko had given Tottenham the lead. Looking to close the game out, Harry Redknapp turned to Peter Crouch to hold up the ball in the forwards.
The Chelsea Twitter account summed up their thoughts on the issue.
Crouch is coming on. Route one here we come. #CFC

Could Chelsea be looking to employ Crouch in a similar role during the second half of the season? It would certainly be a shock transfer…
By the way, for those anoraks amongst you – Chelsea equalised during that game against Spurs, thanks to a Didier Droga leveller.
