Chelsea are reportedly stepping up their bid for wantaway Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and are willing to offer two players plus cash in order to land their former player.
According to the Sun, Chelsea are planning to use Everton’s need for a new goalkeeper to their advantage by offering the Toffees goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in addition to striker Loic Remy, along with an as of yet undisclosed cash lump sum.
Having already seen an offer in the region of £60 million rejected by the Merseyside club, Chelsea are hoping that adding Begovic and Remy as a deal sweetener, will see them finally get their man.
Lukaku was originally sold to Everton by the Stamford Bridge club back in 2014 for just under £30 million following a loan spell the previous season. Since arriving at Goodison Park the 23-year-old Belgian has contributed 43 goals in 104 appearances and has proven his credentials as one of the Premier League’s most promising strikers.
With a week to go until the start of the new league season, Chelsea are keen to hit the ground running following a dismal showing last term. Current striker Diego Costa is reportedly unsettled at the London club and with reports linking the Spain international with a move back to La Liga side Atletico Madrid, Blues boss Antonio Conte is anxious to ensure that he has in-form and happy players on his roster.
Whether Everton will go for the new two players plus cash deal remains to be seen, but it certainly seems as if Chelsea are serious about bringing Lukaku back to London.
