Chelsea and Everton will both have new managers next season, with Antonio Conte and Ronald Koeman coming to the two clubs respectively. Both are looking to bolster their squads following a disappointing season for the two clubs last term.
Chelsea had a calamitous attempt at a title defence, while Roberto Martinez’s reign at Goodison Park ended tamely.
However, the Pensioners and the Toffees are looking to bounce back, and have set their sights on Zenit Saint Petersburg and Belgium star Axel Witsel, according to Football-Talk.
The 27 year-old has impressed throughout Euro 2016, as the Red Devils have marched to the quarter-finals where they will face Wales. Following three consecutive wins against Ireland, Sweden and Hungary, the Belgians are well placed for a tilt at the title.
Witsel has been immense in the middle of the park, chipping in with a goal against Ireland.
Witsel would be a major coup for either side, as his strong presence in the middle of the park can drive a team forward, and gel others around him. This has been evident throughout the European Championships.
This is a move that would make sense for any side, and Witsel’s performances in France mean that he may not be staying in Russia for much longer.
However, Everton or Chelsea would have to offer a hefty amount for his services.
