Chelsea goalkeeper Thaibaut Courtois has picked up something of a nasty eye injury.

The 24-year-old sat out Wednesday night’s international friendly between Belgium and the Netherlands, but pictures of the player on the bench made for alarming viewing.

However, Courtois himself took to social media to dismiss the notion that something was wrong, insisting that the burst blood vessel was nothing to worry about and that he even played in Chelsea’s demolition of Everton last weekend without any problems.

(Of course, that might have been something to do with Everton having one shot on goal for the entire match…)

In any event, although Simon Mignolet start in goal for the 1-1 draw on Wednesday, Courtois is expected to be reinstated to the starting lineup in Roberto Martíez’s side’s next World Cup qualifier against Estonia on Sunday.

Chelsea will also be somewhat relived that the injury has not been aggravated, as the goalkeeper has had a big hand in a defence that has kept five cleant sheets in a row since manager Anotnio Conte switched to a three-man backline.
