Chelsea have seriously boosted their strike force ahead of next season, after announcing the acquisition of Alvaro Morata for a fee believed to be £70million. The Spanish international striker, who was believed to be a target of Manchester United until they signed Romelu Lukaku, comes to Stamford Bridge in a move which throws Diego Costa’s future with the Pensioners further into doubt.
Morata, 24, is no stranger to the biggest occasions, scoring three goals at Euro 2016, and finding the net for Juventus in a Champions League final.
This is a signing that will significantly boost Antonio Conte’s side, as they look to retain their Premier League crown and make an impact in Europe this season.
Chelsea Technical Director Michael Emenalo spoke of his delight at the move.
“We are delighted to complete Alvaro’s signing and welcome him to the club. We believe he can make a great impact for Chelsea and look forward to seeing him in action.
“Alvaro has proven class at the highest level and his quality will be a huge asset to Antonio and the squad.”
Morata is The Pensioners’ fourth summer signing, after Willy Cabellero, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko were all confirmed for a move to west London.
