Real Madrid and Columbia midfielder, James Rodriguez, who looked to be making a big money move to Mourinho’s Manchester United, has now become a target for rival clubs Chelsea and Manchester City, according to Talksport.
Last week, reports stated that Rodriguez would be allowed leave the Bernabeu for Old Trafford if a fee of £50 million was forthcoming.
This news looked to have given Mourinho the green light to sign the Colombian midfielder and complete one of the biggest signings of the summer. However, it seems on Wednesday afternoon, things have taken a turn for the worse for United with Chelsea and City also targeting the 24-year-old’s services.
James Rodriguez struggled last season and with his performances not reaching the high standards expected at Real, he was rarely a started in Zinedine Zidane’s side.
Rodriguez performed very well in the recent Copa America however and helped lead Columbia to an impressive 3rd place finish, scoring two goals in the process.
The midfielder’s return to form may whet the appetite of the clubs chasing the player or it may just make enough of an impression on Zidane to want to keep the player in his squad for the coming season.
Nothing is confirmed as of yet but with Real reportedly set to part company with a non-European talent due to the Brexit vote, it would be no surprise to see Rodriguez turning up in the Premier League next season.
Who could forget James Rodriguez’s absolute stunner in the 2014 which went on to win goal of the tournament and also the Fifa Puskas Award for goal of the year.
