The ever reliable Di Marzio stated today that Chelsea has joined Man United in the race for Zenit St Petersburg’s midfield ace, Axel Witsel.
Antonio Conte is said to be a long-term admirer of Radja Nainggolan, Witsel’s Belgium team-mate, but appears to have failed in his attempts to sign him, according to the Italian news outlet.

Roma have repeatedly turned down Chelsea’s offers for the midfield maestro, who must be keen not to lose another star following Miralem Pjanic’s move to Juventus, so the London club have located another target in the form of ex-Standard Liege player Witsel.
Fans of Man United will not be pleased to hear such news, however, after the Mirror revealed today that Jose Mourinho’s side are interested in acquiring Witsel, who has been linked with the club for the past few seasons.
With both teams aiming to restructure under new managers, the battle for Witsel will be tightly fought this summer. The Zenit player’s excellent form in the middle for Marc Wilmots side will only increase an already considerable price tag.
Witsel wishes to leave Russia and Zenit are open to offers, with transfermarkt valuing the 27-year-old at €23m, although one can imagine he will be sold for an inflated price.
