It is little secret that Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are all looking to bolster their squads this summer. All three had disappointing seasons last year, and need more firepower to get back to the top.
Therefore it may come as interesting news to them that Gonzalo Higuain has turned down a new contract at Napoli, as reported by the Metro.
Higuain, 28, is just finished up his Copa America campaign with Argentina, where they lost in the final to Chile after penalties.
The former Real Madrid frontman is regarded as one of the most dangerous goalscorers in Europe, and would be a major addition to any side.
This is not the first time that Higuain has been linked with a move to England, but nonetheless it is a move that makes sense as he looks to get back challenging for silverware at the very top level.
His agent laid out the current situation, speaking to Radio Continental.
“Gonzalo [Higuain] won’t renew his contract with Napoli.
“Napoli are currently asking for the payment of his release clause as a condition for his departure, but Gonzalo and I decided not to extend the deal.
“We’ll see what happen next year, we could even wait until the contract’s expiry date.”
It looks likely that Higuain will not be a Napoli player for much longer, but where he will go next remains to be seen.
