Chelsea Confirm The Appointment Of Maurizio Sarri As New Head Coach

The latest managerial saga at Chelsea has finally come to a conclusion.

Less than 24 hours after the club finally confirmed the dismissal of Antonio Conte, Chelsea have announced the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as their new head coach.

The Italian has arrived at Stamford Bridge on a three-year deal, and told the club’s website ahead of taking his new side to Australia for pre-season preparations:

“I am very happy to be coming to Chelsea and the Premier League. It is an exciting new period in my career.

“I look forward to starting work and meeting the players on Monday ahead of travelling to Australia, where I will be able to get to know the squad and begin our match action.

“I hope we can provide some entertaining football for our fans, and that we will be competing for trophies at the end of the season, which is what this club deserves.”

Sarri took over from Rafa Benitez at Napoli in 2015, guiding the side to two second-place finishes in Serie A during his time there, playing an attractive style of football that is a big departure from previous Blues managers Conte and Jose Mourinho.

It is expected that Italian international Jorginho, who played under Sarri at Napoli, will soon arrive at the club in a €65m deal, with the midfielder believed to have arrived in London for talks with Chelsea on Friday.
