Watch: Stoke’s Charlie Adam Takes Possibly The Worst Corner In Premier League History

Charlie Adam

When Alex Ferguson once said that Charlie Adam’s corner kicks are “worth £10m alone,” this probably wasn’t what he had in mind.

The Stoke City midfielder has garnered a reputation as something of a dead ball specialist throughout his career, but his effort against Burnley on Tuesday night is one that he will want to forget in a hurry.

With the scores level at 0-0 early into the second half, Stoke looked to take advantage of an attack that saw them win a corner against the home side. Unfortunately, Adam slipped at the most inopportune moment imaginable…

As the 31-year-old ran up to take the corner, he slipped over the ball, botching the kick horribly and nudging the ball forward. Although he attempted to bring it back to be retaken, that bit of embarrassment was technically a legitimate corner kick, meaning that as he brought it back with his hand he was penalised for handball.

As bad as that was for Stoke, worse was to come. Burnley’s George Boyd scored the only goal of the game just before the only mark, earning Sean Dyche’s side their first win since January and sees Stoke drop out of the top half of the table.
