The draw for the Champions League group stage took place in Monaco this evening, and has thrown up a number of very interesting match-ups.
Premier League champions Leicester City were guaranteed a top seed entry, meaning they would avoid the heavy hitters but could still have potentially faced the likes of Atlético Madrid or Borussia Dortmund. As it turned out, they were drawn to face Porto, a tricky yet not insurmountable tie.
Arsenal and Manchester City were placed in Pot 2, and while the former will face PSG, the latter will be facing Pep Guardiola’s former side Barcelona.
That same pot also threw up groups that will see Real Madrid play Dortmund and Bayern Munich take on Atlético.
Tottenham were in Pot 3, and having drawn CSKA Moscow, Monaco and Leverkusen, can feel relatively positive about their chances of progression to the next round.
Celtic, pretty much guaranteed a tough draw due to their status as bottom seeds, were drawn in Group C with Barca, Man City and Borussia Monchengladbach.
