Sergio Aguero staying at Manchester City has never been in doubt, according to Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

It was reported last week that Aguero and manager Pep Guardiola had confirmed the Argentinian would be staying in Manchester, and the chairman has echoed that sentiment in his end-of-season address.

Al Mubarak was asked if Aguero would be staying and he replied by saying (via Sky Sports):

“Absolutely. There’s never been a doubt about that. I’ve read a lot of the speculation on this and it’s ridiculous.

“Sergio Aguero is one of the best players in the world. We are a team that aspires to win every competition we compete in.

“Having Sergio Aguero as part of the squad is an absolute must. It has never been in doubt.”

Aguero’s future was thrown into doubt after the arrival of Gabriel Jesus and the Argentinian’s relegation to the bench. Real Madrid were reportedly keen on signing the attacker and end-of-season talks were planned between player and manager.

It appears those talks have gone well and Aguero will be staying at City for at least another season. The 28-year-old has scored 169 goals for City since his arrival in 2011, despite suffering several injuries during that time.

Although Aguero started less matches after Jesus’ arrival, he still netted 20 league goals last term. He scored a total of 33 goals in all competition, from 45 appearances.

City fans will be delighted to hear Aguero will be staying as part of a lethal attacking unit next season. The Argentinian will continue to form an attack alongside Jesus, new signing Bernardo Silva, and possible new arrival Alexis Sanchez.

Guardiola is reportedly still keen on signing Sanchez for £50 million from Arsenal this summer, although he apparently faces a battle with Bayern Munich. Arsenal are also said to be planning on offering the Chile international a bumper new contract in a bid to keep him.

Whether Sanchez joins or not, it seems like exciting times could be ahead for everybody associated with Manchester City.
