Scotland’s goalscorer against Germany, Ikechi Anya, in their opening Euro 2016 qualifier looks to be on Celtic’s radar. According to the Daily Mail he would be ‘keen’ to move to Glasgow, the city where he is from.
Anya currently plays for Championship side Watford, where he has already played four games this season. But Scotland manager Gordon Strachan, quoted in the Daily Mail, thinks Anya deserves to be playing at a higher level.
“The coaching staff scratch our heads at times and wonder why he is not playing in the English Premier League.
“It’s not mugs he’s playing against here – it’s Germany, Croatia, Belgium and England. The Macedonians were no mugs either and he scored against them, too.
“There is no doubt about it. He could go to a Celtic or to a club in the English Premier League no bother.”
High praise from the Scotland manager for the goalscorer who was almost Scotland’s saviour in Dortmund. From his performance against the Germans and how cool his finish was the 26-year-old could be an exciting prospect for Celtic or as Gordon Strachan eluded to a possible Premier League player in the future.
Anya is now on the crest of a wave and has perked the attention of some bigger clubs than Watford. If he leaves he looks to have the ability to, at the very least, earn a place in Celtic’s starting XI if not in a Premier League sides XI.
