Dundalk And Celtic Discover Their Champions League Qualifier Opponents

The Champions League adventure begins again for Dundalk and Celtic next month, just weeks after Real Madrid won last season’s competition.

Thank’s to UEFA’s policy of grouping teams together, the two aforementioned sides were already somewhat prepared for what was to come as they each had six potential opponents that could have been drawn out of the hat.

As it turned out, Celtic and Dundalk were pitted in the same grouping of the “Champions” section, and with the former seeded and latter unseeded they could well have been facing each other, but that eventuality has been avoided.

As well as Celtic, Stephen Kenny’s side could have drawn any of Malmo, Maribor, Rosenberg, FH Hafnarfjordur or Legia Warsaw, the latter two they will know very well from their encounters last season.

In the end, they were drawn to face the Norwegian champions Rosenborg.

Celtic, meanwhile, will have to wait a bit longer to find out exactly whom they will play in the second qualifying round. Brendan Rodgers’ Scottish champions will face the winners of SP La Fiorita or Linfield, which could yet bring the Bhoys’ manager back to his native Northern Ireland.

The first qualifying round kicks of on the week of June 27th and 28th, with the return legs a week later. The second round, featuring Dundalk and Celtic, will take begin on the 11th/12 of July and again the second leg occurs one week later.
