Celtic Given Major Lift Ahead Of Bayern Munich Clash

Celtic have been given a boost ahead of their Champions League clash against Bayern Munich at Celtic Park on Tuesday.

Brendan Rodgers’ side need a result to have any hope of progressing to the next round, and will be well aware that defeat will consign them to battling it out with Anderlecht for the Europa League spot.

The boost that they have received is in fact by virtue of a blow to Bayern, with confirmationcoming through on Monday that star forward Robert Lewandowski has not traveled to Glasgow with the squad and will miss out through injury.

The Polish international left the pitch in pain during last weekend’s 2-0 win at home to RB Leipzig (a match in which he also scored) with what looked like a hamstring injury, and while he had hoped to be fit for the Parkhead clash, he will now be absent.

Lewandowski played in the reverse fixture at the Allianz Arena earlier this month, though he didn’t score in the comfortable 3-0 victory. Indeed, the former Dortmund man has just one goal in this season’s competition so far – a penalty in the opening group match against Anderlecht.

That said, with a record of 19 goals in 20 games in all competitions for club and country, his loss takes away a huge attacking threat for the reigning Bundesliga champions.

Celtic, for their part, are not expected to have any major injury concerns ahead of the tie, and will be further encouraged by the fact that striker Moussa Dembele is back among the goals again after a slow start to the season due to injury issues.
