Capital One Cup Draw: Two Derbies And Potential Giant Killers

There were some cracking games in the second round tonight, and the Capital One Cup draw for the third round looks fantastic.

Stoke scraped past Luton Town 8-7 on penalties after drawing 1-1 in the match after Cameron McGeehan’s late equaliser, Sunderland won an entertaining match against another League Two side in Exeter City 6-3, whilst Carlisle shocked Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Now for the third round, the remaining Premier League teams enter the fray, and there are some really exciting fixtures.

Aston Villa have been rewarded after their 5-3 win over Notts County with a huge derby game against local rivals Birmingham, whilst Arsenal will yet again face Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

League One side Walsall, having had an outstanding start to the campaign, won 2-1 against high flyers Brighton this evening, and will play Premier League champions Chelsea at home.

Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United will have to overcome a tricky test against Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town.

Meanwhile, Carlisle will travel to Anfield to take on five time Champions League winners Liverpool.

The games will take place on the 21st of September.

Here’s the draw in full.
