Watch: Steven Beattie Scores Top Corner Rocket To Give Cork City Europa League Victory

Cork City

Cork City are in Estonia today as they embark on their European journey this season. The Europa League qualifiers paired them up with Levadia, in what was seen as a kind draw of the League of Ireland leaders.

However, John Caulfield’s side were under pressure to get off to a perfect start, and Gary Buckley ensured that the first half was certainly a good one for the Rebel Army.

Levadia were reduced to 10 men following Tabi Manga’s second yellow card after a foul on dangerman Sean Maguire.

With just minutes left in the first half, City had a freekick on the edge of the opposition box, and Buckley was on hand to drive a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.

After dominating the exchanges after the break, City pushed as they looked for a second, and it finally came in the form of a cracker from Steven Beattie to give City a 2-0 lead ahead of the second leg.

With next week’s return leg in Turner’s Cross looming, Seam Maguire and Co. will be eager to build upon their lead and see off Levadia.
