Brighton’s Mathew Ryan Pulls Off Stunning Double-Save To Deny Man United

Manchester United were looking to put their midweek Champions League disappointment behind them in Saturday’s Premier League clash with Brighton.

Jose Mourinho’s side recovered well from going a goal down last Saturday to defeat Newcastle 4-1 at Old Trafford, and were strong favourites going into today’s match at the same venue.

However, Man United did not have it their own way at all in the first half. Promoted sides Brighton, Huddersfield and the aforementioned Newcastle have been conspicuous by their fearlessness this season, and David Wangner’s side have already beaten the Red Devils this season.

As the half wore on, Man United began to turn the screw as they tried to carve out an opening, and must have though that they had taken the lead right before half time. Australian goalkeeper Mathew Ryan, who at one point last summer was Brighton’s record purchase, did brilliantly well to keep out a Romelu Lukaku header from a Marcus Rashford corner. Ryan was somehow then able to get down to keep out the rebound from Paul Pogba, when it looked as though all the French international had to do was poke the ball home into the net.

It was enough to send the Seagulls into the break scoreless at half time, though the deadlock was eventually broken after the restart by Ashley Young to send Man United 1-0 up.
