Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli is, to some degree, a wanted man.
The 25-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield, but a number of clubs in Italy and further afield have confirmed that they would be interested in signing him.
Serie A side Sampdoria have repeatedly claimed that were it not for his high wages they would have lodged a bid by now, while reports in Italy last week alleged that Inter were looking at signing him, primarily due to his affordability.
Today, it is the turn of Turkish side Besiktas to publicly state their interest in recruiting the controversial Italian.
Club president Fikret Orman admitted to Turkish magazine Fanatik that Balotelli’s reputation was the only reason why clubs of their size were being linked with him – that his talent should warrant interest from better teams:
“Mario Balotelli is the type of footballer that our fans can associate themselves with, I’m pretty sure he would attract great attention.
“To be fair, if he wasn’t deemed as a trouble-maker, he wouldn’t be rumoured to be joining us.
“But we can show some effort and create solutions for Balotelli’s infamous troubles. I think he can change with the attention and care he’ll receive in Turkey.
“In short, we want Mario Balotelli and he wants us too.”
At this point, Balotelli needs to leave Liverpool for the sake of his career. Manager Jurgen Klopp could not have benn more honest with the player that his time at the club is up. While the rest of the squad went to their pre-season training camp in the US, he was made to train and play with the under-21 side.
Although Liverpool want to offload Balotelli permanently, Besiktas are likely to come to the Reds with an offer of a season-long loan deal in the near future.
It remains to be seen whether the club would accept such a proposal, especially given the fact that he still has two years remaining on his Anfield contract.
