Manchester United’s season so far has been stuttering rather than spectacular. Following the string of landmark signings many had felt sure that they were set to lay waste to the Premier League. That has, it’s fair to say, not quite materialised as they currently sit in sixth position in the table.¬†

However, according to an intriguing BBC report,¬†senior figures at the club have laid out an aggressive transfer plan for the club, encompassing the next two transfer windows. They insist that such a period of time is required for Mourinho to assemble the squad he wants, and thus suggests Manchester United aren’t capable of challenging for the title this season. The pan outlined includes several big names, and makes for interesting reading.

It is thought that the club are eager to part ways with various current luminaries, namely Memphis Depay who has been linked with various clubs including PSV Eindhoven and Roma. It will come as little surprise that Bastian Schweinsteiger is also likely to leave in January, and rumours suggest that it would be little surprise to see Ashley Young and Morgan Schneiderlin follow him out the door.

Mourinho’s comments certainly suggest that no one at the club is safe;

“I am always open to listen to offers for every player. I am always ready to listen to the players themselves. So any player who knocks on my door and is not happy and wants to move, when the offers are correct, I will never stop a player from leaving, even if it is to a rival. No problem at all.”

One player singled out by Jose, and not for good reasons, was Luke Shaw;

“Luke needs to improve. That is normal as he is a kid.

“I am not expecting a young player to be perfect. A young player makes mistakes, has things to learn and things to develop.”

Players on United’s hit-list are proving difficult to determine, although Benfica defender Victor Lindelof is thought to be close to top of the list. The Swede has been openly praised by his countryman Ibrahimovic since he joined the club, and would be capable of deputising for Eric Bailly when he departs on African Cup of Nations duty.
