Bundesliga side Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign Schalke 04 midfielder Leroy Sane despite the 20-year-old German international being heavily linked with a move to Manchester City.

According to a report from ESPN FC, Sane’s father revealed that the German outfit and Champions League winners Real Madrid are keen to sign the winger before the transfer window closes.

“Real Madrid and Bayern are also still in the mix,” former Bundesliga striker, and Sane’s father, Souleyman Sane told Sky News.

Furthermore, reports from German publication Bild suggest Munich’s interest in Sane may have spawned from the recent injury to Arjen Robben. The Dutch winger suffered a nasty groin injury in a recent friendly and could be sidelined for up to two months.

The German champions could hijack ongoing negotiations between Sane and Manchester City, with reports in Germany only last week stating personal terms were agreed between club and player, with Schalke looking for a fee in and around £41 million.

If Sane’s proposed move to the Etihad falls through, Munich could wait until next season to make their move for the 20-year-old, with his £30 million release clause not active until then.

Sane made 42 appearances for Schalke 04 last season, scoring nine goals in the process.
