Michy Batshuayi provided one of the most noteworthy moments of Belgium’s victory over England on Thursday night.
In a largely uneventful clash featuring two understrength sides in Kaliningrad, Adnan Januzaj scored the only goal of the game with a terrific finish early in the second half.
However, Batshuayi, in his rush to celebrate what would transpire to be the winner, booted the ball against the post emphatically – only to see it rebound directly against his own head and away.

Taking to his Twitter account after the match, the Chelsea striker was fully prepared for the social media onslaught that followed the incident, but was fully prepared to see the funny side of his unfortunate interaction with the woodwork:

Even Batshuay’s teammates were piling in on the incident, including midfielder Axel Witsel:

Batshuayi, who failed to build on his goal against Tunisia with a strike against England, is likely to find himself on the bench again assuming Romelu Lukaku is fit enough to return to action in the last 16 against Belgium.
Assuming he can stay away from the post, Batshuayi still provides a strong option from the bench, however.
