Referee Deniz Aytekin is in a spot of bother after making some questionable decisions during Barcelona’s 6-1 victory over Paris St-Germain in the Camp Nou.
Barcelona have a history of making their way through Champions League ties with the aid of some very questionable refereeing and, after they pulled off the greatest European comeback of all time on Wednesday night, even more eyebrows were raised.
Barcelona were handed two soft penalties against the French champions in the Camp Nou while Angel Di Maria was instructed to get up having been blatantly brought down by Javier Mascherano in the box. It was a clear one on one opportunity for Paris and, had the correct decision been made, it is certain that Paris would have successfully negotiated their way through the tie.
With Uefa coming under increasing pressure from fans after the Catalan side were once again the beneficiaries of some very questionable officiating, Marca are now reporting that Aytekin will be demoted and shall not feature in any future Champions League games this season.
Marca go on to state that the level of punishment that the German official shall face has not yet been settled on and that Aytekin may even be sidelined from officiating all together until the calls of ‘Uefalona’ die down once again.
