Xavi has hailed Arsenal forward Alexis Sanchez as one of the best on the planet.
The Barcelona legend, who is plying his trade in Qatar with Al Sadd, played with Sanchez during their time with the Catalans and has hailed the Chilean’s impact at Arsenal.
The former Udinese star has been converted from wide man to forward under Arsene Wenger, and is currently enjoying arguably his best run in his career after scoring twelve goals in fifteen appearances.
However, Sanchez is currently in a standoff with officials over terms in his proposed new deal at the Emirates, with his current contract running out in 2018.
But Xavi’s words certainly suggest that Arsenal should do everything they can to keep him at the club.
“The level Sanchez is playing at now is not a shock to me at all, he is one of the top forwards in Europe and now everybody is seeing it,” said Xavi.
“He scored some important goals for Barcelona but maybe because there were so many established stars already at Barcelona that not everybody recognised him as they should.
“Now at Arsenal he is their main threat, people are starting to notice – but anybody who has played with him will know of his qualities and not be at all surprised he is now being considered one of the best attacking players in the world.
“What gets him so much respect is his work rate. He has this obvious ability but also works so hard for the team, he never stops running.”
Arsenal face Manchester City on Sunday, and Sanchez will be looking to exploit a Pep Guardiola team who have looked suspect at the back this season.
