The final hurdle has been cleared – Barcelona have accepted that the player have activated Neymar’s release clause and have responded accordingly.

The Catalan giants released a statement on Thursday evening confirming that the Brazilian’s representatives had been to the club’s offices and lodged the €222m payment in full, allowing the deal to proceed.

The statement reads:

“On Thursday afternoon Neymar Jr’s legal representatives visited in person the Club’s offices and made the payment of 222 million euros in the player’s name with regards to the unilateral termination of the contract that united both parties.

“As such, the Club will pass on to UEFA the details of the above operation so that they can determine the disciplinary responsibilities that may arise from this case.”

Things had threatened to become a bit ugly on Thursday morning as La Liga rejected PSG’s initial attempts to pay the fee in their office, leading to a statement in response from the LFP. However, any threat of arbitration by FIFA has now been averted and Barcelona have accepted that Neymar is no longer their player.

Instead, he is technically a free agent right now having bought out the contract, but will complete a move to the Parc des Princes probably within the next 24 hours.

Attention now turns to when the Brazilian international will ba unveiled as a PSG player, with early reports suggesting that the club will look to announce his arrival before their Ligue 1 opener on Saturday afternoon.
