Arsenal target Ricardo Rodgriguez’s future is looking increasingly likely to be away from the Wolfsburg Arena amidst new quotes from it’s Sporting Director.
Shortly after confirming the signing of Swiss general Granit Xhaka, reports emerged about Arsenal having concrete interest in Ricardo Rodriguez.
Since then, with speculation growing and a string of impressive performances at the Euros, Wolfsburg’s Sporting Director Klaufs Allofs was asked about the future of the promising talent. Allofs conceded in an interview with Swiss newspaper Blick that they had discussed his future, but that “Rici has stated that his future is not with us”.
Earlier last month, the 23-year old fullback also spoke openly about moving away from Bundesliga entirely.
‘I don’t know where I’ll be going, everything’s still open,’ he said.
“It’s also not impossible to continue at Wolfsburg, even though it might be unrealistic right now.
There are many big clubs. The English clubs have a lot of money, Spain is a great league. “[Playing with Xhaka would] be exciting, yes, especially as we’d have already solved the rooming question at Arsenal.”
From “unrealistic” to Allof’s confirmation of Rodriguez’s intentions to move on, it is clear that talks have progressed.
With Nacho Monreal hitting 30 years of age and Kieran Gibbs seemingly Liverpool-bound according to Football Insider, Rodriguez would be a top quality addition to the North London giants.
