Big News Update On Alexis Sanchez’s Arsenal Future

Alexis Sanchez

As the official signing of Granit Xhaka draws closer, and Arsenal are linked with big names like Medhi Benatia and Alvaro Morata, it’s fair to say Arsene Wenger is looking forward this transfer window.

But what about the players that are already at the club?

For a while now, Alexis Sanchez has seemed unsettled at Arsenal. Whether it be his storming off the pitch following a substitution against Norwich in April, or his comments made in March regarding the “lack of hunger” to win at the club, fans have the right to be a little concerned.

And flashbacks don’t exactly put them at ease. A history of selling vital players has been synonymous with Arsene Wenger these last ten years, with Fabregas, Nasri, and van Persie all moving onto greener pastures (along with many others).

So what is Wenger doing about it?

Well today, the Daily Star and Spanish outlet Fichajes are reporting that Alexis has committed his future to Arsenal.

After Tomas Rosicky’s departure, the squad number 7 had opened up for a new owner, an opportunity with which Alexis has pounced on (as confirmed by photoshoots for the 2016/17 kit).

And while this is not the new contract fans have been yearning for, it is a sign that the Chilean is satisfied with the club’s transfer activity thus far.

If Wenger continues to bring in new faces – he could start by turning rumours for Morata and Benatia into signings – that contract may not be too far away.

This is great news for Arsenal fans, as reported interest from Bayern Munich, Juventus, and Manchester City was stepping closer and closer to reality as Arsenal’s campaign dwindled to a disappointing finish.

But Alexis seems to have cleared this from his mind, and will now focus on another Copa America tournament with Chile, before returning to Arsenal for a pre-season that sees them jet off to USA for a late July match against the MLS All-Stars.

Arsenal fans will hope that, by then, that new contract will be a reality. And perhaps one for Mesut Ozil wouldn’t go amiss either.
