Atletico’s Bid For Top Arsenal Target Is Rejected By Serie A Side [Marca]

Atletico Madrid have reportedly had a huge offer for Napoli star Gonzalo Higuain rejected by the Serie A club, who are insisting on far more.

The future of the Higuain has been the subject of much speculation this summer, nearly as much as that of Paul Pogba. Following an incredible season which saw him score 36 goals in the league, teams have been lining up to make a play for the 29 year old.

With Juventus, Arsenal and Atletico Madrid all interested in the striker, it is the La Liga giants and Champions League finalists, who have made the first official offer. According to Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis, and reported via Marca, an offer was submitted and subsequently rejected,

“Atletico offered us 60 million plus two players but we turned that down, let’s see if Arsenal can do better”

It is understood that Napoli are not budging from their assertion that it will take a massive €94 million in order to trigger any serious transfer talks. With de Laurentiis seemingly giving the nod to Arsenal to make him and offer, it is now up to Arsene Wenger to decide whether to pursue with previously reported plans to offer in the region of €50 million and Olivier Giroud for Higuain.

Based on Napoli’s out of hand rejection of a bigger offer from Atletico, it must be said that unless Wenger is planning to up the stakes considerably, it looks like Gonzalo Higuain is not headed to the Emirates this summer.
