Tom Cleverley’s loan move to Aston Villa has been approved by the Premier League, affording the midfielder the opportunity to reinvent his career.
This news comes after weeks of speculation about Cleverley’s future lying elsewhere. Hull City as well as Everton were also linked with a move for the England international.
This loan does not come as a surprise to many who believed that Cleverley doesn’t pack the ability required for a club with top four aspirations such as United. With signings like Ander Herrera and Angel Di Maria coming in then there wasn’t much hope that Cleverley would have any significant involvement under Louis Van Gaal.
Cleverley received a lot of flack as a result of Manchester United’s atrocious 2013/14 campaign with many fans calling for his exit. The Aston Villa moves provides him with the opportuntiy to rebuild his reputation, one that was was widely regarded when Cleverley first burst onto the scene.
The 23-year-old is Paul Lambert’s sixth signing in this window with the aim to improve Villa’s fortunes from last season where they could only muster a 15th placed finish, with 20 defeats along the way. So far this season Villa are unbeaten with two wins under their belt.
