Arsenal fans will be reading a lot into Arsene Wenger’s body language today in the hope that he has completed a massive deal for the club.

Arsenal fans have been scratching around looking for a glimmer of hope that something good might come from another Premier League season that many will feel has been another opportunity lost.

Not in contention for the league title, out of the FA Cup, out of the Champions League and out of the League cup, all eyes are already looking towards next season.

Such has been the dramatic loss of form since January that many felt this was the year that would see long term manager Arsene Wenger depart. After all it’s not like this is the first season where Wenger’s Arsenal side have slumped in the critical period after Christmas.

Now, with the transfer rumour mill in full swing as sides look to bolster their squads for next season, a telling smile by the Frenchman might suggest that one of the biggest transfer rumours of them all may have been completed.

It has been reported in the press that Wenger has been chasing Switzerland international Granit Xhaka for some weeks now and during a press interview in advance of their upcoming game with West Ham, the under pressure manager let slip a grin when asked about the truth and status of the rumours that he is eager to sign the in-form Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder.

Much is being read into this response from the manager as he gave a very similar response three years ago when queried about potential sign Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid. Sure enough, mere hours later the German was a Gunner.

Arsenal are in real need of options in midfield and the 23 year old would be seen as a very strong addition to the squad as they look to finally mount a sustainable title challenge and take the next step in the Champions League.

Whether or not Wenger does in fact have a deal in the bag remains to be seen but you might imagine that Arsenal fans are getting excited right about now.
