Having been with Arsenal for over five years, last weekend, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain stated the time is coming wherein he will have to consider his position with the club.
The 23-year-old is still viewed as a player with huge potential at the Emirates. However, he has as of yet failed to nail down a place in the Arsenal first team and so far this season, Oxlade-Chamberlain’s involvement has been fairly limited.
Speaking about his situation, the young Englishman stated that, although he is completely focused on doing everything he can to break into the first team, he is close to considering options outside of the Emirates.
“There is going to come a time in my career, and I think I’m approaching it, when I do need to get more regular football but my focus is completely and utterly on playing for Arsenal and breaking into the team when I get the opportunity…”
“There comes a time in your career sometimes when you have to re-evaluate and think, ‘Is that going to be here or elsewhere?’
Speaking about the Ox’s quotes, Wenger said that he understood the winger’s frustrations but that he would get his chance at the club and that his place was at Arsenal.
I can understand [his frustration], yes. On the other hand, when you buy a young player at 17 years of age and you spend a lot of money, you would like him to stay at the club.
I think his place is here. We like him, I personally rate him as a player and I hope that he will show that he can have a stable position in the team until the end of the season.
He is similar to [Theo] Walcott this season. He has not been rewarded yet, but he is in a similar position because he has worked really hard.
