Arsenal remain in the market for a centre forward.
For the past number of seasons it seems Arsenal have been perennially linked with a move for Julian Draxler. Rumours of bids being made and the player’s desire to leave Wolfsburg have all freely circulated in the past.
Throughout that time, the German international has reportedly been on the verge of joining Arsenal on numerous occasions. However, despite a great deal of speculation and probable interest, the Gunners have never been able to land their man.
What makes this story any different. Well, so far this season Wolfsburg have struggled and now find themselves 13th on the Bundesliga table.
In addition, the club failed to qualify for the Champions League last season and didn’t replace Andre Schurrle after he joined Borussia Dortmund last summer.
This leaves 23 year-old Draxler standing at a cross roads in his career. Does he see out his contract with Wolfsburg, or does he seek a move to a bigger club?
According to his agent, Draxler has chosen the later path, after Fabio Parisi confirmed the attacker would leave Wolfsburg at the end of the season.
The player’s representative was quoted in the The Metro (via Tuttosport), as saying, “he will definitely leave Wolfsburg at the end of the season… I repeat: Draxler will leave”.
However, before Arsenal fans get too excited, Parisi indicated that his client would “gladly run to join Juve and is the ideal trequartista for Allegri”.
Nevertheless, Parisi did leave open to possibility of Draxler joining another club by also indicating that Juve may not even be interested in his client, “whether or not Juventus are interested again is another matter”.
This leaves open the possibility of the 25 times capped international finally joining the Gunners after years of speculation.
