Over the past decade or so, it has become increasingly obvious that Arsene Wenger and Jose Mourinho do not like each other.
Although the jabs between the pair have remained relatively subtle in the professional surroundings of post match press conferences and pre match interviews, quotes from Mourinho revealed in the Daily Mail on Thursday evening, have taken things to a place they’ve never been before.
Although it had previously been thought that the feud between the pair was routed solely in footballing rivalry, it would now appear that things are far more personal than initially thought.
Rob Beasley’s book ‘Jose Mourinho: Up Close And Personal’ is currently being serialised in the Mail and, in quotes released from the book on Thursday, the Portuguese boss is reported to have said that he wants to break Wenger’s face.
“When Mr Wenger criticises CFC and Man United over the deal with Mata… I will find him one day outside a football pitch and I will break his face,” Mourinho told Beasley.
With Arsenal set to take on Chelsea this weekend, Arsene Wenger faced the press on Friday morning and was immediately quizzed about the shocking quotes that were circulating.
The Arsenal manager however, refused to be dragged into a mudslinging competition. “I haven’t read the book and certainly will not read it,” he told a media conference. “I cannot comment on that.”
Wenger: "I have no personal problem with anybody. I respect everybody in our game and don't feel I comment a lot on other teams"
