Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla Warns Wenger Not To Lose Star Defender

Arsenal are the in-form team of the Premier League at the moment. With six wins from their last six games and unbeaten since the opening day of the season, things look extremely promising for the Gunners this term.

Assured at the back, strong in the middle and dangerous up front, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger has finally pulled together a squad that is fit and full of confidence.

A single cloud in the clear skies over the Emirates is, however, a reminder to all that things can turn very quickly and, unless they are focused and paying attention, another season of disappointment could unfold.

The cloud is the question mark over the future of stars Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Hector Bellerin. While contract extension talks are ongoing with Ozil and Sanchez, it is the future of Bellerin that has compatriot Santi Cazorla concerned.

Speaking to the IBTimes, the Spaniard reveals,

“We’ll see [what happens with Hector]. It is clear that Hector is the right-back of the future.”

“You could see in the victory over Swansea how good he is. He was all over the place and never stopped running. For Arsenal it would be a mistake to let him go. It is obvious that many teams want him. There has been talk about Manchester City and Barcelona.”

“He is a player with great potential and I am sure he will also be a key part of the future of the Spanish national team.”

Wenger has previously stated that while Bellerin has another three years left on his current deal, a new contract is expected to be offered soon.

Whether this will be enough to ward of the likes of Barcelona, his boyhood team, and Manchester City, where his former manager Pep Guardiola now rules, remains to be seen.

Wenger and fans will be hoping that given Arsenal’s impressive form so far this term will be a deciding factor in any future decisions for the young Spain international. Until a new contract is agreed however, fears of an audacious bid for the star will continue to niggle.
