Arsenal’s Plan In Ruins As Juventus Given Permission To Move For Napoli’s Gonzalo Higuain [Report]

Manchester United

Speculation has been steadily mounting this week that Arsenal are set to offer Napoli €50 million and Olivier Giroud in order to secure the transfer of star striker Gonzalo Higuain. However, it seems this plan is in ruins.

According to ESPN, via Calcio Mertato, Juventus’ majority shareholder Exor has given the green light for the Serie A champions to make a move for the in-demand Argentina international.

Juventus could well be coming into a huge amount of money soon as it is beginning to look increasingly likely that Manchester United will be successful in the bid to bring Paul Pogba back to the club where he spent his youth.

The reported world record fee for the midfielder will certainly boost the buying power of the Turin-based outfit as they seek to convince Napoli to sell the man who last season scored an amazing 36 goals in 35 league games. Higuain has a reported release clause of €95 million so the sale of Pogba will work out very nicely for Juventus.

This is just the kind of news that will send Arsenal fans into fits of depression. While feelings were mixed at the thought of losing Olivier Giroud, the prospect of acquiring a world-class striker had given them real cause to hope that next season might actually be their time to win the title.

Arsenal are sorely lacking up front and Higuain was seen as the answer to manager Arsène Wenger’s goal scoring problems.

With the breaking news that Juventus have now been given permission to go all-in for the Argentine, it is suddenly beginning to look like, once again, Arsenal are set to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
