Watch: Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud Misses Another Absolute Sitter For France

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud came in for some considerable criticism last season following another failed Premier League campaign.

The France international suffered a 15 game goalless streak between January and April and was singled out by fans as the cause of Arsenal’s slump in results during the same period.

While it was unfair to lay all the blame at the feet of the 29-year-old, there was certainly an element of culpability for the Frenchman. Though he did score 24 goals for Arsenal last term, including 16 in the Premier League, Giroud was remembered last term for missed as many sitters as he scored.

This fan was kind enough to compile a few of those howlers.

In a bid to leave last season behind, Giroud has been in fine form this term both for club and country. Only last week he scored his 12th goal in 13 games for France, a truly phenomenal statistic.

Overnight, against international minnows Belarus, he was handed the chance of improving that number even further.

Played through on goal by a deft back heel from Antoine Griezmann, Giroud somehow managed to blaze the ball to the right and wide, when it would actually have been easier to score than not.

It seems that the ghosts of last season have not be fully exorcised after all. However, fans would do well to remember that the Arsenal striker was one of the Premier League’s most prolific goal scorers last term.

With three games under his belt so far this season, he has already scored once. Yes, that number should now be two, but, only a fool would write him off so early in the season.
