It would be quite the blow for Arsenal if, on the week their move for Jamie Vardy stalled, Chelsea and Tottenham stole two more targets from under their noses.

With reports gathering pace on Monday that Chelsea had entered into talks for Juventus striker Álvaro Morata, they could be set to lose another striking target as Tottenham have apparently agreed a fee with Eredivisie side AZ Alkmaar for forward Vincent Janssen.

Dutch international Janssen had admitted late last week that he was looking to leave his club, and with Arsenal on the hunt for a new striker, many assumed that he would end up at the Emirates.

However, Arsenal’s pursuit of Vardy has meant they have taken their eye off of their other targets, allowing their rivals to swoop in.

The Mirror are today reporting that Janssen has already spoken to Tottenham boss Maurcio Pochettino, and that a fee of around £12m has been agreed between the two clubs. Pochettino also came to see the player in Dublin last month, as the Netherlands national team took on the Republic of Ireland in a friendly at the Aviva Stadium.

Pochettino has been stepping up his search for a striker to provide a rotation option for Harry Kane – which is doubly vital now ahead of a Champions League campaign next year.

Janssen was the Eredivisie’s top scorer last season, racking up 27 goals in 34 games in what his first season in the Dutch top flight. His rise to prominence has been meteoric, and has seen him become one of Europe’s most sought-after young prospects.

The Netherlands’ “Big Three” – Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord – have been linked with the striker but the player himself has already said that those clubs could not afford the transfer fee.

In any event, he would favour a move abroad, and despite being linked with the likes of AC Milan, he would prefer to move to the Premier League.

With the Netherlands not in action at the European Championships this month, any move for Janssen is likely to move quickly and smoothly – especially if a fee has already been agreed.
