Arsenal Suffer Massive Injury Blow Ahead Of Season Opener Against Liverpool

Arsenal

Arsenal’s summer transfer season has so far left a lot to be desired and things have taken a turn for the worse as key midfielder Santi Cazorla has now been ruled out of the Gunners’ first Premier League game against Liverpool in two weeks’ time.

Much has been made of Arsène Wenger’s failed attempts to sign top attacking and defensive talent this summer and though Granit Xhaka arrived early in the window, there has been very little activity since June, save for the arrival of the lesser known Rob Holding and Takumo Asano.

Now, according to ESPN, Cazorla is losing the race to be fit for the start of the new season, leaving Wenger with an even bigger selection headache for the season opener.

Already without Olivier Giroud, Aaron Ramsey, Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil following this summer’s international commitments, the loss of Cazorla makes life particularly difficult for Wenger as he looks to cobble together a side for the Liverpool clash.

According to the veteran Arsenal boss, the Spaniard is still a few weeks off match readiness:

“At the moment he is not completely there on the fitness front. That’s why I took him off at half-time.

“He’s a bit behind the others physically but I think he will be alright, maybe not on Aug. 15, but at the end of August he should be alright.”

Having had an injury-ravaged season last term, Cazorla’s fight to regain fitness is progressing but it now appears he will have to wait a few more weeks before finally getting back into the Arsenal jersey.

While the Gunners faithful wait for his triumphant return, they will be hoping that their beloved team will get through the first few weeks of the season without finding themselves already adrift of the top of the table.
