Arsenal Struggling To Land Striker

It looks bleak for Arsenal as manager Arsene Wenger repeatedly misses out on striker targets, and there appears to be little prospect of a deal being concluded by tonight’s deadline.

It’s been a bad day for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, with the surprising news just breaking that Manchester United have prevailed in the battle to land Monaco striker Radamel Falcao on loan deal, according to a number of sources including Sky Sports. Saturday’s inept striking performance by  youngster Yaya Sanogo in the Leicester game has highlighted Arsenal’s urgent need for a proven goalscorer,  if they are to have any say in the title race in the wake of Olivier Giroud’s injury.

The Gunners boss also made a desperate last minute bid to snatch Loic Remy away from the clutches of Jose Mourinho, according to The Mail, but lost out here too as the French striker opted to complete a £10.5 million move to Chelsea. Wenger has also missed out on Italian striker Alessio Cerci who completed a move to Atletico Madrid last night.

The news isn’t any better in respect of the pursuit of other targets too, with The Express reporting that Jackson Martinez has committed his future to his current club, Portuguese outfit Porto. The Colombian, who was also been considered for the striking vacancy at the Emirates  was quoted as saying.

“I simply want to enjoy each day and not talk about the future. Everything comes together in time. Will I continue [at Porto]?

“Right now, yes. It will be quiet today and tomorrow will also be quiet. I’m happy to be at Porto and, as I said, the rest does not concern me.”

Is it possible that Martinez is leaving the door slightly open for a move in these comments?

The Mirror has reported that Wenger may make a deadline day swoop for Mattia Destro. They are speculating that the Frenchman’s trip to the Italian capital for a charity event today may be linked to an attempt to sign the Roma hitman. While on this surface this appears to be a stretch, it does seem odd that a Premier League football manager would commit to an event on the transfer deadline day.

Things do not look good for Arsenal fans who have been calling for a new striker, but with only hours left in the transfer window there are no creditable stories linking their beloved club to a quality front man they so desperately need. The Destro rumour sounds like their best shout but this is really clutching at straws.
