With Arsenal’s chase for a striker hotting up, we decided to take a look at who represents the best option for Arsene Wenger.
While stats don’t tell the whole story, these will certainly give you some food for thought on Arsenal’s potential incomings. How does Olivier Giroud compare to Alvaro Morata, Mauro Icardi, Gonzalo Higuain and Edinson Cavani?

Comparing the goals scored by each of these forwards throws up a very interesting conclusion. Maybe Olivier Giroud isn’t all that bad. He managed twice what Alvaro Morata did, a man who some fans have been desperate to see arrive at the Emirates. He equalled the total of Icardi and only fell just short of Cavani’s nineteen league goals. All this in the most competitive league of the lot.
It also makes it clear just how good Gonzalo Higuain is.
This is where Morata comes back into the reckoning. Giroud still holds his own in this department though.
Gonzalo loses some marks on this one while Morata, Icardi and Cavani lead the way. Arsenal’s own still places well. His stats really suggest he deserves his place in the Gunners’ starting eleven.
There’s only one winner. Higuain had a sensational season for Napoli and leaves the competition for dead.
Meanwhile, is it possible that Alvaro Morata isn’t all he’s cracked up to be?
However, the big takeaway from these stats is clear. Olivier Giroud isn’t nearly as bad as some would have you believe.
